As my 6th year as the Head of Geography and with 10 years of Geography teaching experience under my belt, I decided it was time to reach out into the online world. Geography is a subject that intrigues me and I am still awe struck every time I explore the outdoors. I am more of a physical geographer, getting my BSc Geography degree at the University of Exeter. My friends I made whilst I was there have all sorts of different career paths, varying from soil investigations as a contaminated land consultant to photographing the wildlife in stunning destinations across the globe as part of some upcoming documentary series. However, all the photos on my website are in fact mine though, taken whilst exploring this beautiful world we are privileged to be part of. That's the beauty of Geography - you can become anything, it really does open doors!
Despite mentioning that I am more of a physical geographer, in the recent open evening at the school I currently work at, I was asked - what is your specialism? I had to pause. Obviously my degree was much more physical and I also had my geology A Level love from when I was back at school. But this question struck me, it got me thinking. I am really interested in geopolitics, resource security and exploring the geographical history and cultures of places such as Detroit. Where have I gained this new human geography love...well from teaching it mainly, but also from exploring the world. Hence the name - geographer on the road!
I am looking forward to inspiring you as students, teachers, lecturers, and anyone else I can manage to reach out to. Now is the time to study geography! So come with me and become a geographer on the road... to success and to new destinations.
Do I have any other interests? I am usually asked this and happily I will always say yes! Definitely! I am the Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator at my current school. I am also a qualified rock climbing instructor and have always loved getting out onto the real rock and climbing to new heights! But I do still get very scared, including on a trip to the Dolomites where I tried out via ferratas. Terrifying but stunning. Horse riding, that's another passion, has been since I was a baby basically, horses are in the bloodlines of our family. Oh and how could I forget my newest endeavour...my paddleboard!
Join me as a geographer on the road!
